Commercial boiler repairs are an important part of keeping large and complex facilities operating safely and efficiently.

One recent example involved investigating a fault with a commercial Buderus boiler at Eton College.

The Buderus boiler is one of two identical boilers serving the swimming pool at Eton College.

Having two boilers provides valuable resilience for a critical facility. The boilers can share the load, helping to reduce reliance on a single unit and ensuring that there is additional capacity if one boiler requires maintenance or develops a fault.

In this case, we were called to investigate reports that one of the boilers was repeatedly going into fault when attempting to ignite.

Our commercial heating engineer attended the site to carry out a detailed investigation.

Rather than simply replacing components, the first step was to establish exactly what was causing the boiler to fail.

A series of diagnostic checks were carried out, including removing and inspecting key components such as:

• The Burner
• Gas Valve
• Fan
• Probes
• Heat exchanger

During the investigation, water was discovered inside the boiler’s fan.

This was preventing the boiler from starting correctly. Our engineer drained the water before reassembling the boiler and continuing the diagnostic process.

Further investigation identified an additional issue: the gas valve was not operating correctly.

Once the investigation was complete, mel provided Eton College with a detailed report outlining our findings and recommendations for the necessary remedial works.

This approach allows the client to understand not only what has gone wrong, but also what needs to happen next to return the system to reliable operation.

For facilities such as swimming pools, where heating and hot water systems are essential to day-to-day operations, identifying faults quickly and accurately is particularly important.
