mel in The Community: Supporting Our Team and The Wider Community

At Maidenhead Electrical Ltd, we’re proud of the work we do for our clients, but being part of a community means more than delivering great electrical and facilities management services.

We believe in supporting our people when they want to take on challenges outside of work and doing what we can to contribute to the wider community.

Whether that’s raising money for charity, taking on a personal challenge or getting involved in a cause that’s important to them, we’re always happy to support our team.

Supporting Our Team Beyond the Workplace

One of the things we value about mel is our team spirit.

We work hard together, and many of our employees have been part of the company for years. But we also recognise that our people have lives, interests and ambitions outside of work.

There’s no expectation for employees to take on charitable challenges or out-of-work projects. However, when someone does decide to do something significant, we’re proud to get behind them.

One great example was mel Director Andy Collins, who took on the London Marathon IN 2024 alongside his wife, Laura, to raise money for the NSPCC.

Running the London Marathon for the NSPCC

Taking on a marathon is a huge commitment – particularly when you’re balancing work and family life.

Andy and Laura spent months training, fitting long runs around their busy schedules and tackling those dark winter mornings and evenings that every marathon runner will recognise.

Their hard work paid off.

They completed their first marathon together and raised more than £6,000 for the NSPCC.

As Andy put it afterwards:

“Amazing to experience London and humanity at its best …… quite special!”

Crossing the finish line together was a fantastic achievement, and one that the whole mel team was proud to celebrate with them.

More Than Just a Fundraising Challenge

For Andy and Laura, the marathon was obviously a personal challenge, but it also gave them the opportunity to raise money for a cause that makes a real difference.

The NSPCC supports children and families across the UK, and continues to rely on fundraising and public support to help deliver its services.

And while not everyone at mel will fancy running 26.2 miles, we believe the same principle applies to any challenge our team chooses to take on.

If it’s important to our people, it’s important to us.

mel's Community Spirit

Our community involvement isn’t about ticking a box or creating a corporate social responsibility statement.

It’s about supporting the people who make mel what it is.

We know that our employees have different interests and causes that matter to them. So, whether someone is taking on a marathon, raising money for charity, volunteering their time or tackling another personal challenge, we want them to know that they’ll have the support of the mel team behind them.

It’s another part of the close-knit culture we’re proud to have built.

A Team That Supports Each Other

The same team spirit that we see on our projects is something we try to carry through into everything we do.

Our electricians, apprentices, facilities managers and support team work together every day to solve problems, support clients and deliver high-quality work.

We also make time to spend together away from work, from team-building activities to social events. Because strong relationships don’t just happen on site – they’re built by getting to know the people you’re working alongside.

And when one of our team takes on a challenge of their own, we’re happy to cheer them on.
